Jewelry
Jewelry is beautiful when worn properly. Various types of it can be worn from head to toe. Gems & precious metals can be used to represent social or official rank, age, marital status, and in primitive cultures -- tribal affinity. For the most part, jewelry the world over is used for adornment.
Gold by nature is yellow and is soft. It symbolizes riches, wealth, and good standing. Gold does not change color, rust, corrode or fade. It can be alloyed with other metals to create different colors. Gold is very popular in dress bands, earrings, pendants, necklaces and bracelets. Gold rings are the elegant touch for the well dressed man.
Pearls are an organic gem. For this reason, they are less durable than most gems. Pearls are formed inside the body of oysters created when an oyster covers a foreign object with beautiful layers of nacre. Pearls that have been cultivated for short periods -- have very thin nacre; with wear or with exposure to strong perfume or hair spray, they can lose their luster.
Pearls are evaluated according to their size, shape, color, blemishes and orient (luster). Pearls can be very luminous and attractive. Pearl necklaces are made of various types of pearls like freshwater pearls, akoya pearls, Tahitian pearls, and south sea pearls. They go very well with all kinds of bridal dresses and gowns.
Diamond is the hardest mineral on earth. Diamond is pure carbon, the element that is also the foundation of life. A diamond's value is based on four criteria: color, cut, clarity, and carat. Diamonds can occur in nearly any color, though yellow and brown are by far the most common. Diamonds have the highest refraction index. Light just passes right through them. Those used for jewels are, typically, transparent. That’s what the clear sparkle is about on woman’s finger.
Costume jewelry (also called fashion jewelry or fake jewelry) is jewelry that is made of less valuable materials, including base metals, glass, plastic, and synthetic stones. These are used in place of more valuable materials such as precious metals and gems. Costume jewelry is usually inexpensive, and often flashy. Vintage costume jewelry reflects the trends of the old days, as the designs are much influenced by the type of clothing worn and the material used at the time.
Special jewelry is worn for occasions like marriages, parties etc. As Elizabeth Taylor once said: "Beautiful jewelry is to be loved and not possessed, for we are all temporary custodians of beauty.
